NEWS RELEASE

Full Program of Quantum to Cosmos Lectures and Panels now Available

Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, September 2, 2009 – Immerse yourself in quantum computing, robotics, the nature of time, space exploration and the potential of green technology! The full program of talks and panels for the Quantum to Cosmos Festival, coming to you October 15-25, has just been released and tickets will be available on Tuesday, September 8.

Whether you engage on-site, online or on TV, you can:

  • Consider the future of physics with 10 of the world’s leading researchers, sharing a single stage for the Festival’s opening presentation “Quantum to Cosmos”
  • Learn how authors, innovators and scientists are “Seeing Science Through Fiction” with host Lee Smolin and panellists Jaron Lanier and Neal Stephenson
  • Find out how they do it as Peter Diamandis, Founder of the X PRIZE, shares his insights and reveals that “The Best Way to Predict the Future is to Invent it Yourself”

On-site visitors will find Perimeter Institute’s soaring atrium transformed into a television set as TVO’s “The Agenda with Steve Paikin” is broadcast live from Monday, October 19 to Friday, October 23. Steve Paikin will enlist the help of expert panels to navigate the studio and home audience through current issues such as:

  • Are We Bound for Space?
  • Wired 24/7?
  • Who’s DNA is it?

About the Quantum to Cosmos Festival

For 10 exciting days this October, Perimeter Institute’s Quantum to Cosmos: Ideas for the Future (Q2C) will take a global audience from the strange world of subatomic particles to the outer frontiers of the universe. Q2C will transcend traditional festivals by streaming events live and on demand, offering virtual interaction with exhibits, and providing special opportunities for students and teachers. TVO, Ontario’s public educational media organization, is the Presenting Media Partner for the Q2C Festival.

The Q2C Festival is produced for Perimeter Institute by Title Entertainment Inc.

About Perimeter Institute

Canada's Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics is an independent, non-profit, scientific research and educational outreach organization where international scientists cluster to push the limits of our understanding of physical laws and develop new ideas about the very essence of space, time, matter and information. The centre provides a multi-disciplinary environment to foster scientific collaboration in research areas of cosmology, particle physics, quantum foundations, quantum gravity, quantum information, superstring theory, and related disciplines. PI also provides a wide array of award winning outreach resources and public lectures for students, teachers and the general public to share the joy of research, discovery and innovation. In partnership with the Governments of Ontario and Canada, PI continues to be a successful example of private and public collaboration in science research and education.
