Lee Smolin, Faculty member

Lee Smolin is a faculty member at Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and the author of "Life of the Cosmos", "Three Roads to Quantum Gravity", and "The Trouble with Physics." He is known for devising several different approaches to quantum gravity, in particular, loop quantum gravity. His research interests include cosmology, elementary particle theory, the foundations of quantum mechanics, and theoretical biology.

Jaron Lanier was a pioneer in, and coined the term, Virtual Reality (VR). He received a Lifetime Career award from the IEEE in 2009. His day job is with Microsoft, and he is also the Interdisciplinary Scholar in Residence, CET, UC Berkeley. His book You Are Not a Gadget will be published in January 2010.
